White Velvet Okra
Description: Rare! This variety was once a favorite in the southern states. Recognized by the Slow Foods Ark of Taste for its exceptional flavor. These pale pods are great for picking and eating raw as they have more of a fuzz as opposed to spines of most okra.

History: Introduced to the public in 1890 by the Peter Henderson & Company of New York. White Velvet has been grown in the south for over 100 years, especially in Alabama. Eventually it was displaced by less exotic varieties.
