Description: Rare! This variety was once a favorite in the southern states. Recognized by the Slow Foods Ark of Taste for its exceptional flavor. These pale pods are great for picking and eating raw as they have more of a fuzz as opposed to spines of most okra.

Heirloom.

Seed grown on our farm with beyond organic standards.

Days to Maturity:  65 days

Approximate seeds per pack: 50

History: Introduced to the public in 1890 by the Peter Henderson & Company of New York. White Velvet has been grown in the south for over 100 years, especially in Alabama. Eventually it was displaced by less exotic varieties.

White Velvet Okra review

I planted the White Velvet Okra seeds in late April and within a week they had germinated and emerged in my garden. So far I am well pleased with the progress. I reside in southwest Mississippi.
