Biochar is the most stable form of carbon you can add to your soil.

No matter your soil, adding biochar leads to less watering, less fertilizing, healthier plants, and increased yields for years and years to come! 

Our premium biochar flakes are locally produced just north of our farm by our friends at Just Right Supplies in their state-of-the-art kilns using materials from local saw mills.

Not just for soil, biochar can also be added to chicken coops to reduce odor and when mixed in animal feeds it can help increase feed conversion and overall health.

Apply at planting time by working into the soil or any time on the soil surface and cover with mulch.

Application rate: One 5 gallon bag covers 20-30 square feet. 

Charging your biochar: Biochar must be charged or inoculated before use. There are a lot of different ways to charge your char such as with worm castings, compost tea, urine, and fermented plant juices. Our favorite way is to mix 25% worm castings with 75% biochar and loosely cover to conserve moisture. If using a liquid to inoculate, get the biochar wet, but not so much that it is sitting in liquid. Air is key. 

Inoculation for at least 30 days prior to use. It takes time for the microbes to multiply and fill up their new home.

Experiments have suggested you can do an emergency charging using a combination of compost tea and fish emulsion for 48-72 hours, however we still prefer the long charge.
