New Zealand Spinach

Description: Not actually a spinach, but that’s what they call this warm weather green. Many claim it is similar in flavor, thus the name. Produces all summer long when your true spinach has long since bolted. A must have for greens lovers, especially those of us with hot summers.

History: Reported to be the first Australian vegetable to be cultivated in England, brought back by botanist Sir Joseph Banks. Apparently Captain Cook and his crew ate it in the 1700s to prevent scurvy.
