Open pollinated.

Conventional seed.

Days to Maturity: 55

Approximate seeds per pack: 50

History: Sugar Ann was an All American Selections winner in 1984. There were commercial varieties of snap peas going back to the 1880s, but by the 1970s they were largely unavailable with no varieties being sold commercially. Sugar Ann was the result of the work of Dr. Calvin Lamborn and Dr. MC Parker of Twin Falls, Idaho. Their first variety ‘Sugar Snap’ was introduced in 1979 and was the result of crossing a snow pea with a shelling pea that had showed an odd trait. Apparently growers loved the flavor, but didn’t like the fact they grew to be over 6 feet tall so after 5 more years of development, the duo introduced ‘Sugar Ann’ which was much smaller at around 24” and matures about a week earlier.

Don't forget the inoculant! Peas and Beans are among the crops that add nitrogen to your soil through an association with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Inoculate the roots to make sure they are present in your soil! While peas and beans will still give you a crop without it, it has been shown that plants yield heavier and perform better when inoculated.
