Contender Bush Bean - Organic
Description: A reliable, heat-tolerant snap bean that thrives where others struggle. Contender produces abundant yields of smooth, stringless 6-7" pods in just 48-52 days, making it one of the earliest bush beans available. This vigorous variety was bred specifically for superior performance in hot, humid conditions and shows excellent resistance to common bean mosaic and powdery mildew.
The compact 18-20" plants are ideal for small gardens and container growing, yet sturdy enough to support heavy pod sets without staking. Pods maintain their tender, crisp texture even in warm weather, and the variety is known for concentrated harvests—perfect for preserving. Contender's adaptability across diverse climates and growing conditions has made it a garden staple since its introduction in 1949.
Excellent for fresh eating, freezing, and canning. This heirloom performs reliably in both spring and fall plantings.

Don't forget the inoculant! Peas and Beans are among the crops that add nitrogen to your soil through an association with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Inoculate the roots to make sure they are present in your soil! While peas and beans will still give you a crop without it, it has been shown that plants yield heavier and perform better when inoculated.
